Elim Chew: Doing Life Better

From the very beginning of our plans for Nanz Inc.Com we knew we had to rope Elim Chew in, some way, somehow. There was not a single Asian woman we knew who embodied the motto “Do Life Better”, better than Elim. She continually went from strength to strength in her business and more importantly, in her social endeavours.

So when we started filming our videos, Elim was top of our list. She’s one busy woman — so it was pretty awesome of her to set aside a couple of hours for us to film her at her office in Hougang.

Getting Nanz and Elim in a room together is a little bit like putting a Mentos in a bottle of Coke. You get major fizzle and pop! Both are models for the Asian woman entrepreneur, both having enjoyed the kind of business success that many women dream of. They have known each other for the last 20 years — Elim was the hairdresser who gave Nanz her then-signature crop that propelled her to the upper echelons of modeldom, one who was in Dick Lee’s small circle of top girls.

Yakking away like two school mates about Elim’s guest in town that week, Karen Tse, founder of International Bridge of Justice, who was here for SIP’s Giants in Conversation, Nanz and Elim chattered and chortled as the film crew from Moriah Productions shot three interviews for Nanz Inc.

After the session wrapped we all adjourned to the Sheng Siong Supermarket next door — and to the second floor for a feast of Thai food. Elim waved us to go ahead, saying that she would join us but … after an hour and an apologetic phone call from the flaxen haired one, we knew our short time with the extraordinary and busy Elim Chew was over.

PS: As we got up to rush to our next shoot, the rain started coming down in sheets. Nanz demonstrated her extreme quick-thinking by wearing a Sheng Siong plastic bag over her head as she dashed for the car.
