• Simplify, simplify.
Skip some steps, and focus on what you really need. Baby didn’t sleep through the night? Focus on undereye concealer and choose a colour that really works to counter the dark circles that make you look like a vampire. Try Bobbi Brown’s Corrector in Bisque.
• Use products that have high impact with minimal effort.
Instead of three shades of eyeshadow, a quick swipe of gel eyeliner in black or brown will still do the job of emphasising eyes. Try MAC’s Fluidline or Maybelline’s EyeStudio Creamy Gel Liner for a cheaper alternative.
• Use multipurpose products.
Just like how you are able to answer e-mails, breastfeed and watch CSI simultaneously, choose makeup products that multi-task. If your skin does not need much coverage, use a tinted moisturiser with SPF which will even out skin tone, provide protection from the sun and give your skin a healthy glow. It’ll save you the precious minutes of putting on separate products and unscrewing bottle caps. Try Laura Mercier’s Tinted Moisturiser in a shade suitable for your skin tone.
• Look for products that are quick and easy to apply.
If you haven’t already jumped on the mineral makeup bandwagon, now is the time to do so. Applying mineral powder foundation only takes a minute – you only need to buff, buff and buff! Mineral foundations give sun protection, good coverage and yet feel light on the skin. Best of all, it suits Singapore’s hot and humid weather perfectly. Try Everyday Minerals for an affordable mineral foundation. The brand stocks a wide range of formulas and colours, including a pressed formulation for a mess-free solution.
• Go for sheer lip colours.
Now is definitely not the time to wear fire engine red lips, because such colours require precise application and a lip brush. Also, highly pigmented lip colours are not convenient for the times when all you want to do is cuddle and smooch your newborn. Lipsticks in sheer formulas, tinted lip balms and lip glosses are quick to apply and still give a boost of colour, while not overpowering your new pared down look. Try Make Up For Ever’s Glossy Full, a plumping lip gloss that is colourless and can be used on its own for an ultra-brilliant vinyl effect.
