My High Definition Make Over

My High Definition Make Over : My High Definition Make Over

Nanz Inc reader Vivienne Ho found herself being made over by Christine Ng,
a Make Up For Ever professional artist, using the brand’s HD range. This is her story.

What a pleasant surprise when Theresa contacted me to do this blog for Nanz Inc. My instant response was “Huh? You sure?” I felt so supremely honored, as though I had just been crowned Miss Singapore!

It was only after I had given my enthusiastic “YES!” and hung up that I began to have mixed feelings.

I was concerned I wouldn’t live up to expectation. I used to have oily and problem skin that left me with some scarring and uneven skin tone, hence, I have certain criteria when come to choosing the cosmetics I use on my face.

But a woman is only as good as her word so that Saturday morning, I showed up at Make Up For Ever Academy located at Stamford House. Here, they conduct professional makeup courses and workshops in a very conducive and well-equipped environment. They also provide makeover and makeup services for different functions and events, on and off-site.

The moment I stepped in, Christine Ng, the Makeup Artist warmly received me. After a brief introduction and understanding my requirements, she was all ready to transform my look using their renowned HD (High Definition) range of products.

Prep

To begin, Christine used two types of cleanser to remove all my make up: Gentle Milk and Pure Water, followed by an alcohol-free Cool Lotion to tone my skin.

To begin, Christine used two types of cleanser to remove all my make up: Gentle Milk and Pure Water, followed by an alcohol-free Cool Lotion to tone my skin. I really liked the scent of those products. Next, she used the distinctive HD Elixir serum to prep my skin for an optimal flawless effect. Instantly, my skin looked supple and firm. I was “wowed” by the immediate difference. I saw that my cheeks were lifted and my laugh lines were lightened. Amazing!

The Face

Christine demonstrated her copious knowledge of every single product that she used on me. She explained the uniqueness of Make Up For Ever products as compared to others found in the market. Quite a few of them caught my attention.

Quite a few of them caught my attention. After the Elixir serum, Christine put the compulsory HD Microperfecting Primer over my entire face to cover imperfections and protect skin. There are seven colors, each serving a different function:

l Neutral – adds natural luminosity to the complexion

l Green – minimizes redness

l Mauve – counteracts sallow undertones

l Caramel – for medium/dark/golden skin tones

l Blue – adds radiance to fair skin

l Yellow – lightens dark complexion

l Pink – brightens complexion

Christine used Mauve on me; this is the most frequently used color for Asians. It is the safest color for every makeup artist to carry with them for any off-site jobs.

There are more than 20 shades in the HD Invisible Cover Foundation. Christine applied on me #118 Flesh, which is for light skin with beige undertones. After that, she chose shade #330 Golden Beige out of the 14 shades of HD Invisible Cover Concealer, which not only conceals but also doubles as highlighter. For application, Christine emphasized that it is a must to use nylon/synthetic brushes. Using the finger is a no-no as it will leave finger prints on the face that will be captured by the high definition camera. One technique to apply this concealer is to use layering to achieve good coverage.

The last step for the face, she used the talc-free formula HD Microfinish Powder to hold and set the HD Foundation, for a glowing and radiant look. It is translucent and works for all skin colors.

The last step for the face, she used the talc-free formula HD Microfinish Powder to hold and set the HD Foundation, for a glowing and radiant look. It is translucent and works for all skin colors. According to Christine, this highly reflective powder must be used with much care, just a little bit for the entire face. Any excessive powder on the face will be captured by the high definition camera although it can’t be seen with our naked eyes.

Before moving on to do the eyes makeup, Christine used the Mist and Fix to set the face makeup.

The Eyes

<br /> I had told Christine that I'd love to have smoky-eye and my favourite is a green color eye shadow. She picked the waterproof Aqua Black, which is Make Up For Ever's top-seller product and #310 Diamond Green (dark teal green with shimmer), topped with some Star Powder (ultra fine pearl particles in 33 shades) and Diamond Powder (glitter in13 shades) to create the look.

Christine had a hard time doing my right eye as I was tearing quite a bit due to my sensitive eye. She tried to use Eye Seal to fix the makeup. Eye Seal is a waterproof Liquid Converter that is created to transform all eye products into waterproof makeup. How clever!

After two and a half hours, Christine was done, and I had been transformed into a High Definition-ready, professional made up individual. I had loads of fun discovering the wide array of high quality Make Up For Ever products. It was quite an experience!
