The Joys Of Being Mobile

The Joys of Being Mobile
I have to say I’m so happy to be living in the mobile age. It’s hard to imagine that once upon a time, there were no cell phones (used to be I clipped a pager to my belt and when it went off, I would have to hunt for a public phone or borrow an office phone) and laptops had a battery life of one hour! I might as well have been going to the office in a horse-drawn carriage.

These days I can drop my kids at school, head to the nearest café with free wi-fi, and work for four hours before picking them up again. In those four hours, I can finish two business proposals, clear around 20 emails, and make one or two 15-minute calls.

Having the right tools for a mobile worklife is so important. I had a tiny little netbook earlier this year. It looked so cute when I bought it and I had fantasies that since it was so light I could carry it everywhere and work anywhere. However, the reality was, the netbook had specifications that were far too low, and it took forever to load. The keyboard was so narrow I was always mistyping words. And when I tried to bring it for presentations it was just too ridiculous trying to get clients to look at the small cute screen.

After shopping around I decided on the VAIO .TT. It’s light (1.31kg) and slim (11.1”) and fits into my handbag, and as I’ve come to expect from Sony, it’s simply a quality product. The way the carbon fibre casing feels, the ergonomic, rounded design — all make for a pleasurable experience. The isolated keys on the keyboard make typing a joy.

Coming after a netbook that obviously didn’t run on an Intel chip, the VAIO .TT is a dream to use! The Intel Core 2 Duo Processor makes this machine run faster and I can run multiple applications without it hanging or lagging. So I’ve got my Microsoft Word, Powerpoint and email programmes running simultaneously, plus Yahoo Messenger, so that I can chat with Theresa and Eric about work matters.

It’s such bliss to be effective in my free four hours, and get the maximum done on the run.
