Nanzinc contributor and makeup aficionado Lianne Ong visited Make Up For Ever’s (MUFE) counter at Sephora ION Orchard to find out more about their ethereal, Twilight-inspired holiday looks – Blue Rhapsody and Vamp’ Princess. She ended up getting her own customised Bella look and discovered the thrill in wearing bold, exciting colours for the festive season. Here is her account.

I love makeup like the next girl, but when I saw the visuals of the Blue Rhapsody and Vamp’ Princess holiday looks, I wondered whether there was an inner Bella in me to carry this off. Do real women actually wear this kind of makeup?
“It’s true that these are not looks that most women wear on the street. But at Make Up For Ever, we emphasise makeup artistry and creativity. You don’t always have to use the exact shade of eyeshadow to create the same look, but take inspiration from these looks and customise it to suit your needs. Ultimately, you do have to feel comfortable with the makeup you’re wearing,” Sabrina Chia, brand manager for Make Up For Ever (Singapore) said reassuringly.

She then went on to explain that these looks created by the Parisian brand’s founder Dany Sanz are rooted in European theatre, but the style and techniques of the looks could easily be translated to suit a night of clubbing or even a fancy Christmas soiree.
With that assurance, I figured that maybe I might like such bold, bright hues on my face after all. Makeup artiste Christine Ng lost no time and started getting to work, deftly working around the brand’s newest counter at Sephora ION Orchard.

As I walked out of Sephora, there was a realisation that it was really my attitude about wearing such colours that would either make or break the look. With each step that I took, I started having more fun carrying off this look and soon forgot I was wearing ‘loud makeup’ altogether. So add some colour to your makeup routine this party season and vamp up your look. Who knows, you might just meet your Edward at the ball!
