FairPrice Xtra offers all the competitive pricing of FairPrice with loads of extra offerings that you can’t resist. Catch the anniversary promotion, on till 21 April!
What do you get when you combine all the cost-effectiveness of FairPrice and the range of a hypermart? !
I checked out the store at the basement of AMK Hub on busy Good Friday, and it was packed with families shopping. This weekend was one of five weekends of celebrations marking Xtra’s third anniversary, themed Family Fiesta. Great offers are up for grabs, as well as prizes to be won during this period, which ends 21 April.

It’s hard to resist shopping at Xtra. This hypermart offers a wonderful range of products from household to garden to fresh food. I start at the Fresh section – it costs me less than $4 for 10 medium-sized navel oranges (which turn out to be juicy and sweet). The fruits and vegetables here are in such massive supply, and at such great prices you find you are soon tempted to buy more items than you initially planned!

The Organic section is something I really like about FairPrice— and you can find organic items, particularly for kids, at FairPrice Finest as well. Healthy biscuits and snacks, as well as oils and pastas are available at reasonable prices.

The Wine section is modest in size but offers up a surprising wide range categorized by continent. Bulk offers are also available seasonally (today there is a promotion: buy five of a particular brand and get the sixth bottle free) so those who host parties regularly will find some great buys here.
Talk about bulk buys, Xtra offers family-sized packaging for some consumables, like kitchen rolls and toilet paper, making it cheaper and more convenient to shop here.

What is particularly attractive for moms like me is their huge section of baby care items, from baby milk and baby bottles to baby bedding and other bigger-ticket items. Strollers, bouncy chairs, walkers, cots — you can find them all here. The choices and the prices are great, making this a one-stop shop for parents with young kids.

In fact that’s the main attraction — you literally can go to Xtra and get all the things you need for the home, from a new bicycle for your son to a hairdryer for Mom and all the food for the week, all at one go.

The Home Linen section will have aunties of all persuasions salivating — there is a wall filled with linen (bedsheets, quilts, pillow covers, pillows) of every kind, for every member of the family.

The Electronics section offers everything from plasma and LCD TVs to induction cookers. Look out for special deals in the “islands” in every section. Specially-priced items are up for grabs often, and you can expect some really ridiculous discounts (like up to 70% off!). Customers can also enjoy interest-free installment payment and free delivery of electronic products.

Before I know it I have spent nearly two hours in this hypermart! One final item before I go, something just for me — a L’Oreal night cream I need, from their well-stocked Health and Beauty section.
One really can buy just about any household item at Xtra, all at one time. I will definitely be back!
PS Be sure to check out the Bazaar area as you enter the store — there are a wide variety of great buys from toys to exercise equipment!

Novie, why do you like FairPrice? (say, as compared to Cold Storage or Shop N Save)
